We are committed to providing a safe place for homeless women and domestic violence victims as we work together to rebuild their lives. Regardless of race, religion or background we will dedicate our efforts to develop and empower women and their at risk children.
Maria Gibbs
Maria Gibbs is a resilient survivor of domestic abuse, a devoted Christian, and the Founder and Executive Director of Maria Gibbs Ministries, Inc., a nonprofit organization committed to supporting women affected by homelessness and domestic violence. Through lived experience, unwavering faith, and compassionate leadership, Maria has transformed personal adversity into a mission of healing, advocacy, and restoration for women in crisis.
Under her leadership, The Secret Place provides resources, hope, and pathways to stability for vulnerable women and families. Maria is currently spearheading a community walkathon to raise funds for the construction of a dedicated shelter—an initiative designed to offer safety, dignity, and refuge to women seeking a new beginning.
In recognition of her extraordinary commitment to service, Maria Gibbs is a recipient of the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Harvey Nonprofit Consulting Group. This prestigious national honor is the highest level of recognition for volunteer service in the United States and is awarded to individuals who have contributed more than 4,000 hours of service, demonstrating sustained leadership and a profound impact on their communities.
Maria is a proud mother to Christopher, Tarshma (Morgan), James (deceased), Faith, Brianna, Apollo Jr., and Nate. Grounded in her love for God and His people, she strives to reflect faith, compassion, and excellence in every area of her life. Her leadership is marked by authenticity, perseverance, and an unshakable commitment to serving others.
Apollo Gibbs Sr.
Apollo Gibbs serves as Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Maria Gibbs Ministries Inc., where he plays a key role in advancing organizational effectiveness and community impact. He brings a thoughtful, mission-driven approach to nonprofit leadership, with a strong focus on operational excellence, strategic growth, and program alignment.
Apollo holds a degree in Project Management from ITT Technical Institute and a degree in Internet Marketing and Web Design from Fortis College, summa cum laude. His professional background includes digital marketing certifications in Google AdWords, Google Analytics, and email marketing, equipping him to strengthen outreach, engagement, and sustainability efforts. His foundation in nonprofit work began through volunteer service, where he developed a deep appreciation for grassroots leadership and community-centered solutions.
As COO, Apollo oversees daily operations, collaborates closely with board members and community stakeholders, and leads initiatives designed to strengthen infrastructure, expand capacity, and support long-term sustainability. He believes that strong partnerships, innovation, and accountability are essential to achieving meaningful and measurable impact.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Apollo enjoys barbecuing, bowling, playing video games, and spending quality time with family. He is committed to continuous personal and professional growth and is passionate about empowering others to help build stronger, more connected communities.
BOARD MEMBERS
Kim Hampton
Kimberly Hampton is a native of Courtland, Alabama, and has resided in Indiana since 2012, faithfully following God’s leading through both her career and calling. She is the proud mother of three—Jamarius, Kenyatta, and Jyasiel Hampton—and considers her family among God’s greatest blessings.
Kimberly’s life and leadership reflect a deep commitment to obedience, growth, and service. Her ministry journey spans the Southeast and Midwest, where she has served in a variety of leadership roles, including Staff Pastor, Youth Leader, Financial Chairman, President of the R.A. Hubbard Foundation, President of Maria Gibbs Ministry, Secretary of the Northwest Indiana Corvette Club, Sunday School Teacher, and volunteer in educational and community outreach initiatives. She has also been entrusted with developing and implementing the vision for Women’s Ministry, creating spaces that foster spiritual growth, healing, godly virtue, and authentic sisterhood.
After completing all prerequisites for Holy Orders, Kimberly was licensed, ordained, and consecrated to the sacred office of Pastor and Prophetess in 2022 under the leadership of Bishop Sieon C. Roberts Sr. in Gary, Indiana. Known for her integrity, wisdom, strength, and spiritual discernment, she serves as a watchman on the wall—equipping, encouraging, and strengthening God’s people with boldness, grace, and unwavering faith.
Outside of ministry, Kimberly enjoys spending time with family, traveling, dancing, volunteering, and cooking. She stands firmly on Psalm 91:1:
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
Yashica Milton
Yashica Milton is a Senior Client Service Specialist at Centier Bank, bringing over 18 years of experience in the banking industry. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, summa cum laude, from Indiana Wesleyan University. Yashica spent six years specializing in fraud investigations, where she played a critical role in detecting, preventing, and mitigating financial fraud.
Yashica is actively engaged in community leadership and service. She serves on the board of Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana and also holds the position of Vice President of Maria Gibbs Ministries, Inc., doing business as The Secret Place. Her leadership is marked by diligence, integrity, and a deep commitment to organizational excellence.
A woman of faith, Yashica is actively involved in church ministry, serving on the administration team, youth ministry, choir, intercessory prayer team, and singles ministry. Known for her unwavering dedication, positive attitude, and strong work ethic, she approaches every assignment with excellence while encouraging others to grow, persevere, and succeed.

Janiya Milton
Janiya Milton is a junior at Ball State University from Gary, Indiana, double majoring in Business Administration and Risk Management and Insurance as a member of the Class of 2027. She serves as the Director of Council Affiliations on the Dean’s Student Advisory Council and is a participant in the Miller Leadership Academy. Janiya is also an active member of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity, where she continues to develop her leadership, professional, and service skills. Janiya also service as the Chief of Youth engagement for Maria Gibbs Ministries, Inc.
Apollo Gibbs Jr.
Apollo Gibbs Jr. serves as the Chief Program Director for Youth Engagement, where he brings energy, compassion, and purpose to youth-centered initiatives. He is a junior at Portage High School and takes great pride in his academics, leadership, and commitment to excellence as a student-athlete. He was the first student selected as Student of the Month at the start of the 2025–2026 school year, reflecting his character, work ethic, and leadership among his peers.
Apollo is a Varsity Football and Varsity Basketball player and is actively involved in the arts as a member of the Advanced Choir. He also participates in the Midwestern Region Honors Choir and earned a Gold Medal for his solo performance through Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA), demonstrating both technical skill and artistic excellence.
With a genuine love for serving others, Apollo is passionate about empowering people and uplifting his community. He is actively fulfilling his calling through ministry by serving with humility, integrity, and a heart for people. Looking ahead, Apollo aspires to play football at the collegiate level while pursuing a Master’s Degree in Music Engineering, combining athletic discipline with his creative and musical gifts.
